FROM THE HEADMASTER’S DESK
BEING YOUR BES T SELF
2020 has been an action packed and unique year as we have navigated our way through the challenges of Covid-19. Reflecting on this in December I believe that through the challenges we encountered, that we have seen our Southwell community shine through with its adaptable, pragmatic and collaborative attitude.
Through Terms Three and Four the messaging of working to be your best self was communicated to our staff and students consistently at whole school assemblies, chapel services, in classes and with teams and groups, with both reflection and purposeful action encouraged strongly around this important theme. No matter what our age, by understanding how to actually develop strategies to create your best self, the outcomes for yourself, your loved ones, peers and people around you can be superb. With this mindset it helps us to overcome challenges and importantly develop our resilience when faced with life’s uncertainties.
Simple basic foundational strategies of eating well, sleeping well and exercising well, with specific strategies to think and act positively with purpose is great fuel to being our best self. When you think of your best self I am sure you see so many excellent personal qualities being shown and others love those qualities. What you read, what you observe, what you listen to and who you engage with cultivates your ability to be your best self. Nourishing optimism that is balanced with the realities of life is important, as we encounter the disappointment and successes through the roller coaster of life.
Thinking and being able to correct attitude is the key to being your best self. Questioning yourself in your mind as to whether you are being your best self at times is a stimulant to act and improve yourself quickly. Over a lifetime I want to see our people resilient to challenge and change, and flourishing by understanding how to be their best selves.
