IALUMNI PRESIDENT REPORT
’d like to start by acknowledging the outstanding efforts group. We thank the class of 2022 for their contribution to of our outgoing president David Shearer and thank Southwell during their time at this special place and wish him on behalf of the Southwell School Alumni for his them well as they make the transition to secondary and
contribution to the association.
As a proud Southwell old boy I am delighted to take up the position of Southwell School Alumni President after several years on the Alumni committee. I am excited to lead a dedicated committee to build upon the solid foundations of the Southwell School Alumni. Southwell has given myself and my family so much over many year, it’s nice to have the opportunity to give a little back.
The Alumni committee has been doing a lot of work understanding our core purpose or our “why”. I believe it is so important for any organisation to clearly understand what they are trying to achieve and what susses looks like. The renaming and rebranding of the association from OBGA to Alumni will help reflect our purpose as an organisation that informs and connects the Southwell family – past present and future. I believe that nurturing the relationships of not only past students and staff but also the parents and caregivers is vital to the strength of the Southwell family.
The last two years have been challenging in regards to connecting people and it has been great to see traditional Alumni events back on the calendar this year, including the year 13/class of 2017 visit to talk to our current year 8
tertiary education. We look forward to welcoming you back as Alumni in the years to come.
We have a great team, with an enthusiastic and hardworking committee looking forward to connecting with our wider Southwell community in 2023. We are looking forward to bringing back a host of popular Alumni events on 2023 such as the Cricket Bash, Golf Classic and some new exciting targeted social gatherings.
The SS Alumni Sport Pavilion is now underway and is due for completion in Q2 of next year. This will complement
an already outstanding campus here at Southwell and be
a versatile space to be used and enjoyed by all. Next year will also see the introduction of the SS Alumni Hall of Fame or Alumni of honour awards, these have been created to recognise exceptional achievements by Southwell Alumni and to inspire the next generation as to what is possible.
We have plenty of work ahead of us heading into what
will be a busy 2023, I’m confident we have a team that will deliver and get things done. On behalf of the Southwell School Alumni I wish the Southwell family a safe and happy festive season.
Per aspera ad Astrum.
