                 YEAR 8 SYNDICATE
Year 8 has been an adventure; mentally, physically and emotionally. It has pushed us to our limits - in a good way of course - and in doing so, made us better people.
We started off our Year 8 adventure with an exhilarating Camp Week on the Central Plateau. It was a unique experience, being grouped with people that we weren’t necessarily familiar with and lived it rough for six whole days. It helped us find new friendships and strengthen existing ones, setting the stage for our ultimate year ahead.
One of the highlights of the year was Market Day, a time to wallow in our creative juices and raise money for charity. It was super interesting to see what each team designed and crafted. String art, lolly dispensers, pencil cases, cushions, ping pong guns and much, much more were sold to eager buyers in Year 7.
Unlike every previous year for the last century, Opera wasn’t a stand-out event, because sadly it didn’t happen due to Covid-19. The centennial production was to be Oliver! Though the opera performances didn't happen, we still had the opportunity to present the Performing Arts Concert in Term 2. Excerpts from previous operas, such as The Little Mermaid, Fiddler on the Roof and The Pirates of Penzance were presented by our talented students.
One of the main events spared from the Term 4 lockdown restrictions was Athletics. The house spirit created an insane atmosphere, only pushing the students to perform better. Everyone cheered each other on, with friendly competition boosting morale. Though it was a close result, Winchester finished on top. It was a fun day for all, especially for the Year 8s who were enjoying their final house competition at Southwell.
With everyone dressed in their formal attire, we watched and reminisced over class tribute videos and enjoyed a delicious lunch together. It was super cool to spend the day together relaxing with our Year 8 friends - some for the last time - before we embark on the next chapter in our lives. What a way to end our extraordinary time at Southwell!
