YEAR 6 CAMP : CAMP COURAGE
THE AMAZING RACE
Blood rushed through my veins. The sound of my heartbeat echoed through my ears. I was running with my group to collect the scavenger hunt sheet. If we were the first group to finish, we would win The Amazing Race. We were almost there, when a group of girls ran past us saying they only needed five more. That’s when I realised to my horror that we were falling behind. We needed a plan.

AC BATHS
There were many splashes in the pool and a roaring sound of children screaming and laughing. I rushed towards the stairs that led to the slide so I could be one of the first to race down. I felt the bumps on the hard metal surface make faint marks on my feet. There was a strong smell of
chlorine in the air.
I kept moving up the steps ignoring the bumps pushing against my feet and the hot humid atmosphere. Soon I was at the top of the stairs and I saw two signs that said, SLOW and FAST. I decided I had the need for speed!

THE HYDROSLIDE
STOMP STOMP STOMP! Up the metal stairs I ran. The hot air felt like a dragon's breath. I could smell the chemicals in the water. I was third in line to go down the fast hydro slide. The first person went down into the dark slide. My heart started to beat a little faster, Their screams got quieter and quieter.
The green light flashed again and the second person raced away into the darkness.
So there I was, staring at the pitch black opening. It looked like the jaws of a giant snake ready to eat me. I wanted to run back down the stairs.
I couldn't.
I stepped on the slide. I felt stiff as I felt the hot air rise up from the water. My fingers trembled. Then the green light went once more. I didn't want to go but I had no choice. I closed my eyes and pushed off into the slide.

A worried look spread over my face. It was my turn on the ropes of death! (Street name: Challenge Ropes.) Ariel looked at me like she could smell my fear! I was given a blindfold. Putting it on was like night had suddenly fallen. I am about to climb over obstacles that are connected to platforms around six feet over the ground. Luckily I have a harness. Ariel clipped me on calmly. She said, “Take a couple steps forward and step on the rope in front of you.’’
I walked forward placing one foot directly in front of the other. Then I tripped as if I had tried to walk on air.
