                                    In 1989, Southwell School bid a fond farewell to Major Gay, a beloved figure whose departure left an indelible mark on the community. A farewell book was presented to Major Gay, a collection of heartfelt comments from the children, offering a poignant glimpse into the impact he had on their young lives. These candid messages, scrawled with youthful earnestness, served as a touching tribute to Major Gay%u2019s time at Southwell, preserving the genuine emotions of those who held him in high regard. Do you recognise these names or notes? Get in touch if you were among the children who wrote in his farewell book.My time at Southwell School is something that I think of often and I have some great memories of Major Gay. We were taught value standards and morals, something that later in life becomes very important. Major Gay also managed to share something special in capturing a class with his remarkable War stories and he could also fix a cricket bat whilst smoking a pipe in class!Craig Baird (1977-82) in 2010
