Alternatively, you may phone (07) 855 2089 (School Office) during the day and leave a message for the Heads of Boarding to return your call. At night and over weekends, urgent calls may be placed on 027 2429 996 which is the Boarding House Mothers’ phone.
DIETS
If your child has special dietary needs, the kitchen staff are happy to accommodate them, given appropriate notice. Please provide relevant information on their medical form and discuss the issue with the School Nurse.
DINING ROOM
Meals are regarded as a formal part of the boarders’ day. Boarders are expected to attend meals dressed tidily in either their uniform or clean sports gear. Shoes must be worn at all times in the Dining Room. Boarders are expected to follow certain etiquette and to display good table manners when participating in meals. Children are seated at specific tables for the duration of the term. Each Squad has a turn to help set the tables for breakfast every morning. Good table manners are encouraged by staff and squad leaders.
Morning tea is given to the students every morning during break. Afternoon tea is offered at 3.20 pm after class and before any after school activities.
DORMITORIES
Students will sleep in squad areas as arranged by Heads of Boarding and each dormitory area will have a senior student who will guide and supervise other members of the dormitory area. The dormitories are:
Rutherford (named after Lord Rutherford of Nelson, the brother of Mrs H G Sergel). This is a boys’ dorm. The boys are of mixed age groups and senior students appointed as squad leaders assist with supervision of younger squad members.
Oliver (named after the first student at Southwell). This is the girls’ dorm. Organisation is the same as for the boys’ dorm.
ELECTRONIC DEVICES
Students are permitted to bring electronic devices to school, but they remain the responsibility of the Boarders. These are collected at night for security and in order to ensure that they are not used after lights out. Both the device and the charger should be clearly named. The school cannot accept responsibility for loss or theft of these items.
