 E-MAIL
Most communication between Staff and parents will be by means of e-mail.
The children also have their own e-mail accounts to use, which follow the format:
firstname.surname@southwell.school.nz
HAIRCUTS
Haircuts are expected to follow school guidelines. It is preferable that parents arrange for Boarders to have their hair cut on weekends, but arrangements are made for students to have haircuts if needed. The cost is charged to the student's account.
Girls are expected to keep their hair clean and brushed. They should have it tied with either navy or black hair ties and are expected to have it off their face using clips that are either navy or black.
Boys should also have a sturdy, named brush or comb. Spare combs are also useful.
HEALTH
Health needs will be handled by the School Nurse during the day and by the Boarding House Mothers after hours.
The School Nurse, who is on duty between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm, is chiefly responsible for the health of the boarders. Boarders with problems or concerns should report to her and she is also available to assist parents with decisions regarding their child’s health. Her office is located on the ground floor and she can be contacted through the School Office.
All medication is handled by the School Nurse and parents are asked to deal directly with her regarding any special medical needs. Boarding House Mothers may administer medication and will attend to boarders’ medical needs according to the School Nurse’s instructions. Should medication be required, a Doctor’s note should accompany the prescription.
All medication is to be clearly named and handed in to the School Nurse on arrival at school (including vitamins). This ensures that the correct dosages are observed. Please ensure that the prescription label is clearly visible. Children are also asked to provide their own cough medicine - especially if they are prone to catching chesty colds. This should also be handed to the Nurse or the Boarding House Mother who will supervise dosages.
If a student has been in contact with infectious diseases during a holiday, the School must be informed.
