TWARDEN OF THE FELLOWS
he Fellows is a group of respected members of the by the Warden of the Fellows, a position I was appointed to in Southwell School community, being an entity formed March 2022. The Warden’s role is similar to a board chair role at time the school was gifted by the Sergel family where duties include co-ordinating meetings including the
to the Southwell School Trust. It enshrined a role for the Founders and those who came after, who had given special service to the school.
The functions of the Fellows, and its reason to be, is to protect the school and give guidance to and monitor
the performance of the Trust Board (the governors of Southwell). It is also to ensure that a structure is in place for the support of the Trust Board and the Headmaster.
In essence the Fellows group is made up of individuals who have demonstrated an enduring passion for Southwell and have contributed by serving the school in a capacity that has given Southwell an enduring and long-lasting ability to remain a top-level primary school.
The Fellows appoints its own members in consultation with the Trust Board Chair and the Headmaster. The group is led
AGM, and functions that include the Fellows. A further duty is to stay connected with the Headmaster and Trust Board
Chair. Founders’ Day is an important day for the Fellows.
At this year’s AGM there were three new Fellows appointed. All have recently been parents of the school, and they have conducted roles in different entities in the school which have significantly contributed to the culture and future of Southwell.
We celebrated on Founders’ Day the appointment of Karen O’Meeghan, Melanie O’Neill, and David Shearer. On behalf of the Fellows I welcome these respected people to this distinguished body.
