2021 has been a fruitful year in many ways for Winchester. Not only did we kick the year off with a bang when we won Swimming Sports, but we’ve stuck together and put in tons of effort with every challenge thrown at us. A moment that comes to mind is when we put together an impressive performance for House Singing, and even though we didn’t get the result we were looking for, we did our best, and on that occasion, our best wasn’t enough.
A more recent event was Athletics, and unlike House Singing, we actually managed to win! The last time Winchester won Athletics was back in 1994, so we are overjoyed to be the ones to lead Winchester to their first Athletics win in more than twenty years. Walking up to accept the award on behalf of our fellow housemates was done with a strong sense of pride. We know for a fact that every Winchestorian put in their best effort, and each of their contributions made a difference. As we had both boys' and girls' teams in the Tug- o-War finals we can also lay claim to the unofficial strongest house title for 2021!
We hope that Winchester can keep this momentum going next year - winning twice in a row would be a great return to success for the house.
We’ve really kept to our relatively unspoken mantra of Get It Done, Just Do It during this year, especially during the lockdowns in Terms 3 and 4.
We're delighted by the teamwork and friendships that have thrived throughout the year in the maroon house, particularly throughout the tough lockdown times. These qualities were very evident in our Athletics win; there’s no doubt in our minds that those exact qualities are what gave us the edge this year.
We wish every student all the best for their future endeavours, wherever their strong values and powerful mindsets - wonderfully demonstrated this year - take them.
