Our boarding house is built on the belief that the best education happens when every dimension of a student’s life is cared for, together, under one roof.
Structured evening prep sessions and a quiet study environment mean boarders arrive at each school day ready and prepared. House Masters oversee homework time and can connect students with additional support when needed.
With around 50 students sharing daily life, friendships deepen fast. Morning meetings, shared meals, and organised activities build a tight-knit community where every student feels known, valued, and supported.
From fresh, balanced meals to comfortable dormitories and a welcoming Family Room, every aspect of the boarding house is designed to feel warm and familiar, giving students the confidence to thrive away from home.
Dedicated House Masters and boarding staff provide around-the-clock pastoral support. Regular check-ins, clear routines, and open communication with families ensure every student’s emotional and physical health is prioritised.
Making beds, managing time, resolving conflicts, and taking responsibility for personal belongings, boarding teaches the practical life skills that set students apart. Many Southwell boarders look back on this time as formative.
Afternoons are energetic, sport, free play, and organised activities keep students active and engaged. Boarders fully participate in Southwell’s rich co-curricular programme, from weekend fixtures to performing arts.
Predictable routines bring confidence. Find out how a typical weekday unfolds in the boarding house, structured where it matters, flexible where it counts.
Subject to availability, Southwell’s Boarding House welcomes current day students for short term stays, an ideal way for your child to experience boarding life. It’s equally useful for parents with travel or work commitments.
Short term boarding is arranged week-by-week during term time. Students check in on a Sunday evening or Monday morning, and check out on Friday afternoon after school, experiencing the full rhythm of boarding life within their existing school community.
