The Performing Arts at Southwell provides students with a range of high quality learning experiences in the disciplines of Dance, Drama, Music and Speech. Children are inspired to achieve artistic excellence whilst developing the confidence and creativity to freely express their ideas and feelings.  Performing Arts courses are taught by qualified, experienced specialist teachers in a well resourced, nationally acclaimed teaching facility which consists of purpose built Music/Drama classrooms, a Dance space and a magnificent Auditorium. Southwell Students enjoy learning about and through the Performing Arts and engage deeply in the many exciting opportunities available to them.

Performing Arts opportunities involve:

Timetabled weekly lessons that sequentially  develop over time, involving music, aspects of movement and dramatic play.Year Level Productions annually.

Whole School Production annually that is known as ‘The Opera’.

Music Groups that cater for a range of musical abilities and interests, including;

  • Boys’ and Girls’ Choirs
  • Symphony Orchestra
  • Jazz Band
  • Wind Band
  • String Orchestra
  • Chamber Ensemble
  • Rock Bands
  • Theatre Sports
  • J Rock Team
  • Instrumental, Voice and Speech and Drama lessons learnt through the extensive Itinerant Teaching Programme.  Lessons available in Flute, Recorder, Oboe, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn Trombone, Tuba, Violin, Viola, Cello, Piano, Keyboard, Guitar, Bass Guitar, Drums, Song Writing and Voice
