Great lives start at Southwell

Year 5 and 6 Winter Sport

Year 5 and 6 Winter Sport

Our Southwell Sports programme is divided into two categories; Southwell Sport and Southwell Club Sport (external competition). Here at Southwell we value sport and have it embedded into our curriculum time. It is an expectation that all students from Years 5-8 take up this opportunity and
participate in our sporting options

Southwell Club Sport (External Competitions)

Southwell Club Sport will see selected teams, across various codes, entered into local external competitions and involved in our traditional Independent School Sports Fixtures (excluding Cycling).
The fundamentals of this sporting option focus on developing and extending athletes across codes;
developing transferable physical and social skills in a competitive environment. These teams will be
selected based on skills, attitude and effort from school musters as indicated in the dates below.
Musters are open to ANY student in Years 5 or 6 who wish to be considered for selection.
Our ability to cater for teams is based on these 3 key components:
-Resourcing of coaches
-Physical spaces for training and games
-Player numbers
If these 3 factors do not align we may not be able to create teams.
A Southwell ‘Club Sport’ player:
● Is a positive team player
● Commits to all practices and games and is punctual
● Communicates with the Coach/Manager if they are unable to attend practices or games
● Represents Southwell with pride and respect at all times

This option focuses on developing fundamental physical and social skills that can be transferred across sporting codes in line with our competitive ‘Club’ option. Weekly Southwell Sport sessions will be split between a training session and an internal competition session.

Southwell Sport will consist of:

Cross Sport or Badminton.

Parent support with coaching and managing. We welcome and require parents who are able to offer their time to coaching or managing. Parents allow our sports programme to offer more teams and more opportunities to our children.
